Regent closing (again)

Post by Davros » Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:43 am

Folks, the Regent closes again for upwards of 3 weeks from 28 August.

This to complete the refurb.

Some say it is excitingly to include a dart board area, a ring board, dominoes & cards enclave, non gender fluid linear specific toilets, live music podium and a dancing girls stage..

Aid agencies have again been put on standby to assist the temporarily dispossessed

Regent Pub - Going upmarket then for the posh clientele of Walton on Thames!

Dart Board Area – bring your Bobby Dazzler costume.
Ring Board – become Lord of the Rings…”precious”.
Dominoes – prefer Cribbage!
Cards Encave – nice to have an area where you can write your birthday/xmas cards
Non-gender fluid linear specific toilets as opposed to a Gender-specific solid non-linear unspecific toilet
Live music podium – bring your triangle and baton
Dancing Girls Stage – do not bring your wife (or daughter)!

I see the Dancing Dads Stage was cancelled as they could not get Ed Balls/John Sergeant to open it!

Mika has already done a lap of Woking in 1998.

I think Mclaren are just filling the F1 summer with some news.

Must have been quite a lap if it also included The Regent!

The Good Pub Guide's annual survey of national drinks prices shows the average price of a pint in Surrey has soared to a whopping £4.40!!

Well folks, drum roll....the mighty Regent has re-opened today!

For those going to Ember Inn pubs. (Ashley Park in Walton.) Note AA card holders can print off a voucher for 20% off food and drink. Apparently this is a standard offer.

Also if you sign up to their app they often give you vouchers and offers. Got offered a free drink from one voucher. Another offered me a free bottle of prosecco if I turned up for my birthday. Worth signing up for these things. These can generally be used in any Ember Inns.

Of course don't drink and drive!! I think some places still offer drivers a free non alcoholic drink?

Not sure if any other Walton Forum members have sampled the delights of the 'New' Regent but overall the initial reaction seems positive.
The Davros' had breakfast there on opening day and it was good. Which of course means nothing.

Prices have risen on some beers; Stella has shot up from £3.15 to £3.80 as an example but probably still the cheapest in the town. Strongbow is also up considerably but you can still get a bottle of drinkable Chardonnay for under 10 quid.

Everything is nice and New and there are plenty of Tv's for sport inc Sky football.
Some say it's a bit bright but the lights can be dimmed which happened last night after the quiz.

Let's see how things are in 6 weeks time

And of course for those who are busy supporting local ventures that they consider far more important than a pub.

For those that trek as far as Weybridge.
Just seen this on Facebook.
'Just to let all our Facebook friends know, Slug & Lettuce, Weybridge is now closed.... We will be re-opening on 30th October under our new name 'Block & Gasket' and new style bar! Thank you for all your custom over the years. We look forward to seeing you in our new bar.'

Still a Stonegate pub brand. So they own at least 2 in Walton and Weybridge.
'The Block & Gasket Modern, independent-feel high-street pubs – open for breakfast and trading late, these sites provide a premium food and drink experience.'

Few pub changes to come.

Looks like the The Vine Craft and Grill in Walton is getting a rebranding to 'Walton Village'. Planning application in. Planning application 2017/3555

Slug and Lettuce has now reopened in Weybridge as 'The Block and Gasket pub'.

Other changes.

Looks like a Waterstone Bookseller is to open in Weybridge to replace Halifax bank that closed. Let's hope the Walton one stays.
Homebase finally rebranding to Bunning.
