Forthouse surgery list closed for over 2 years now

Post by chall5 » Fri Jun 22, 2018 2:41 pm

as title, 2 years seems excessive to me. Do GPs have to periodically run audits to check that everyone on their books is still eligible ?

Seems to be frustration even over a year ago :-

Red Practice at Walton HC also has a closed list for I think over a year now.
Seems to be very difficult for people moving into the area to get a GP.

Yellow Practice, White Practice at Walton HC or Ashley Medical practice seem to be the only options.

I wouldn't touch White Practice with a bargepole.
Ashley is single practitioner so I suppose you either like the doctor or don't.

re eligability, the GPs will know when someone has moved out of area or has died as they have to send on / archive medical records and notify the NHS Demographic Spine (national NHS database).
It's hard to see how neither practice can not have a reducing caseload.

I suspect the answer is that funding is dropping, or that workloads were too high. It could also be that the caseload that the practice has is becoming more demanding.
The older you get the more times you tend to need to see the doctor.

Guess the lists will be closed until they move into new premises, I thought I read a while ago they were moving to Walton Hospital.

I have been told by one of the partners that the list will reopen, if and when, they move to Walton Hospital. The move has not been confirmed with patients yet.

As I understand it,they were negotiating to takeover to the proposed Stompond Lane surgery (never built) but the NHS wouldn't give sufficient financial support to make the move viable.

I was told the lists had grown exponentially in recent years so that it was not possible to accommodate any more new patients. From personal experience, the was a short period a couple of years ago when it became very difficult to get an appointment and everything felt as though things were running less smoothly. Workloads, I believe. However, they have returned to their more usual excellent service.

Remember too, that they are still taking first degree relatives living at the same address as an existing patient so that will account for some of the 'slack' created by deaths, etc.

Red Practice won't even take relatives. It sounds like Fort House wants to expand - hence the new premises.
Red can't expand unless White or Yellow closes down.

Yes , definitely.

That's been on the cards for a long while. The partners appear very dynamic and forward thinking.

Years ago they were based in Rodney Road too. Then they broke away and set up in Hersham Road.

I was a prenatal patient.
