Stonegate pubs - charging more for England games beer?

Post by Walton Newcomer » Wed Jul 04, 2018 12:14 pm

Interesting article on the BBC - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44694354

Are the two Stonegate pubs in Walton (Anglers/The Regent) charging more for beer during England games?

I was at the Regent for a qualifier and a 30p surcharge was levied on all orders.

Apparently to pay for the ‘Bouncers’

I vowed not to go back on a match day, the place was rammed and didn’t feel particularly safe. I Certainly wouldn’t take Mrs Davros for the next match on Saturday.

As you can imagine there was lift off when England got through and exuberant beer throwing.

Meanwhile down at the Swan; the policy this Saturday will be ‘all plastic’

I love that they have offered the excuse that they need to offset the cost of the bouncer.
It seems that they think their customers are thick enough that they haven't worked out that more beer sales = more profit.

You can understand why. If you have 50-100 drunken football fans it could become very difficult for staff and those living nearby.

The cost of recovering broken glass and risk to injury would likely be high too.

I have no doubt the pubs will do well from this.

Thankfully I don't drink alcohol anyway so may avoid some of the price rises here. There are at least 1-2 Stonegate pubs in Walton now? Regent and the Angler?

Yes. We can understand why they might want to employ a bouncer. However it is far less clear why the cost of the bouncer can't be paid for out of the increased profit from those drinking.

I assume you have set aside a place in the pub for the Swedish fans - I understand they are coming in full Viking gear!
And you have ordered horns instead of glasses and getting extra mead in!
Ikea furniture also would be a nice touch to make them feel at home.
Abba music in the background!
