The issue is there is only webmaster at present moderating. By his own admission he is very busy with real life.

There are security check questions to sign up to forum but clearly people have found ways around this. More likely an individual than a bot?? Not sure. Why they are targeting this forum is a mystery. Could be because they think Walton is a rich area? Hmmmm.

Remember this? Posted on Monday on the "Charging for Tennis Courts in Elmbridge" thread:

As you know we also had some volunteer moderators assisting previously, however they are also no longer available. That being said, I will ensure that moving forward I am regularly moderating the forum as I have done in the past. Apologies for the SPAM bots, I know they significantly spoil the experience of visiting the forum and those accounts will be deactivated. Please continue to flag SPAM posts using the report button.

Finally please keep the dialogue friendly, this is a public forum and it should be an enjoyable place to visit and read the posts.

Thank you.

Tim has kindly offered to moderate and has posted as such on the other 'General' page.

I did offer myself but was deemed too partisan by a previous moderator.

Thanks again.

Spammers are getting worse. They are now creating articles and replying them.

So you may get 2 posts with someone replying a post with a link.

Without moderation these forums are being trashed.

Time for Darren to pull the plug.

Darren needs to appoint a second mod here. Especially if he lacks time to look after this forum. I posted suggestions about how to stop these bots. Not sure if he has tried these. I have reported every spam post so far and I am guessing it is sitting in a queue that a mod needs to look at. So frustrating. Disappointing really as many users are turning away from here. I could try and set up another forum but not sure it's needed. This forum needs a spring clean. The housing sections are barely used. We need to bring back the community spirit here.

I'm afraid posters were driven away in their droves long before the spammers arrived by the antics of a small number of malicious posters who for some reason were protected by the moderators of the time. They still appear from time to time to spread their poison and have all but killed the forum. The spammers are just applying the final nails in the coffin.

A shame but there it is.

Agree with WaltonWatcher.

Currently the mod e-mail goes to Peter Jepson.

I have volunteered my services both in a forum DM and to the webmaster e-mail, but haven't heard anything back.

It's changes to forum in background as well as mods this forum needs. Plenty willing to help but Webmaster holds the keys. Unless Rob still has mod powers?? Does he still hang around the bar at the Regent??

It appears Darren is active on his Twitter account. Maybe a tweet would have more affect?

Time to pull the plug Darren.

Most of the new posters are bots. I don't think Darren has looked at these forums in weeks.
