Cowey Sale is one of Walton-on-Thames’s most beloved open spaces — a long strip of riverside common land that hugs the north bank of the Thames between Walton Bridge and the Wey confluence at Weybridge.
The meadow has been common land for centuries, and the name “Sale” derives from the Old English word for willow. It’s a favourite haunt for dog walkers, joggers, families and anyone who simply wants to watch the Thames roll by. On summer weekends you’ll see rowing eights out on the water from Walton Rowing Club, and narrowboats moored along the bank.
Getting there
Cowey Sale is a short walk west from Walton town centre. Head down Manor Road or Bridge Street towards the Thames and you’ll reach the riverbank. There is parking at Manor Road car park nearby.
What to expect
- Flat, easy walking along a well-maintained riverside path
