Who runs this site?
Walton-on-Thames.org is an independent, locally run community guide, created by a Walton resident and supported by contributions, recommendations and corrections from people across Walton-on-Thames, Hersham and the surrounding area.
The site began with a simple aim: to create one well-organised and genuinely useful guide to this part of Surrey.
I'm Darren, the founder and editor of Walton-on-Thames.org. I live in and grew up in Walton-on-Thames and created the website to provide residents and visitors with a clear, dependable source of local information.
The site has been online since 2000 and has developed into a guide to local history, businesses, public services, community organisations, events and places to visit. Its purpose is to bring together information that is often scattered across official websites, archives, directories and local sources.
Walton-on-Thames.org is an independent website and is not affiliated with Elmbridge Borough Council or any other public authority. I welcome corrections, photographs, memories and suggestions that can help keep the site accurate, useful and representative of the community. Thank you for visiting.
What this site is (and isn't)
This is an independent community resource. It is not:
- Affiliated with Elmbridge Borough Council
- A Visit Surrey or official tourism board site
- A paid PR platform for businesses
Independence is core to the site. It means we can be direct about what's good, writing about the area the way a well-informed local would, not the way a tourism marketing department would. The site is 100% not for profit and always has been since it launched in the year 2000.
How listings work
Every listing in the directory is researched using publicly available information — business websites, official directories, Google Maps, and firsthand knowledge. We don't accept payment for basic listings.
We aim to verify each listing before publishing, but things change. If you notice an error, please get in touch or use the "Suggest an edit" link on any listing page — we genuinely read and act on corrections.
Each listing shows a last verified date so you can see how recent the information is.
Photography
All photography on this site (unless otherwise credited) is original photography of Walton-on-Thames, Hersham and Whiteley Village. No stock imagery. The photos show the area as it actually is.
Getting involved
If you have a local business that should be listed, a community event that needs publicising, or a story about the area worth telling — please get in touch. This site is most useful when it reflects the full breadth of local life, and that requires input from local people.
