The Thames at Walton is one of Surrey's finest stretches of river — and the walks along it are among the best in the county.
The Thames Path
The Thames Path National Trail passes directly through Walton-on-Thames, following the south bank of the river. From Walton Bridge you can walk west along Cowey Sale towards Weybridge and the River Wey confluence, or east along the towpath towards Hampton Court and Kingston.
The towpath is flat, well-maintained, and accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs for most of its length between Walton Bridge and Weybridge.
Cowey Sale
The jewel of Walton's riverside is Cowey Sale — a long meadow running along the north bank of the Thames. Common land for centuries, it's the town's living room: dog walkers, joggers, families, and anyone who simply wants to watch the river go by all find their place here.
On summer weekends you'll see rowing eights on the water from Walton Rowing Club, and narrowboats moored along the bank. It connects directly to the Thames Path and is a 10-minute walk from the town centre.
