9th Walton (Viscount) Air Scout Group
Walton's Air Scout group, formed in 1968 and named with the permission of the British Aircraft Corporation at Weybridge, for ages six to fourteen.
The 9th is Walton’s Air Scout group, and its name is a piece of local aviation history: the British Aircraft Corporation at Weybridge gave permission for it to be called Viscount, after the airliner built there.
About
The group was established in January 1968 as an open sponsored land scout group, and gained its Air Scout designation in October 1968. It received RAF recognition around 1971. The “Viscount” in its name was granted with the permission of the British Aircraft Corporation at Weybridge. The group’s own site now styles it more simply as 9th Walton Scout Group.
Who it is for
Children and young people from six to fourteen, in three sections: Beavers for ages six to eight, Cubs for eight to ten and a half, and Air Scouts for ten and a half to fourteen.
Activities
Scouting delivered through an Air Scout programme. The group also runs expeditions: an Iceland trip appears in its own current programme.
When and where
The district publishes the section nights as Beavers and Cubs on Fridays, and Scouts on Thursdays. The group does not publish a meeting address on its website, so ask when you contact it.
