The Desborough Players
Amateur drama group formed in 1946, staging an annual pantomime at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse and rehearsing at Esher Rugby Club in Hersham.
The Desborough Players have been performing since 1946 and are best known locally for the pantomime they stage each year at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse. They rehearse in Hersham, at Esher Rugby Club.
About
The group was formed in 1946 by members of the Weybridge Ladies Rowing Club, as something to do in the winter when they were off the river, and has been putting on productions ever since.
Who it is for
Adults, on stage and behind it. The group describes itself as an adult drama group aimed at teenagers upwards, so it does not cast children as performers, but it welcomes new members young and old both on and off the stage.
Activities
A pantomime each year at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse, plus a second production in the summer months.
When and where
Rehearsals are every Monday and Wednesday evening at Esher Rugby Club in Hersham. Performances are at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse in Walton-on-Thames.
Joining or taking part
New members are asked to get in touch through the contact page on the group’s website. Actors pay around £30 per show, which covers rehearsal venue hire and scripts; people working backstage or front of house take part free.
