Athletics club founded in 1942, based at the eight-lane track on Waterside Drive, covering track and field, cross country and road running.

Walton Athletic Club was founded in 1942 and trains at the eight-lane athletics track on Waterside Drive, coaching everything from sportshall athletics for children to road running for masters.

About

The club dates from 1942 and is based at the Elmbridge Sports Hub on Waterside Drive, where the facilities include an eight-lane all-weather floodlit track, jumps and throws areas, and a clubroom. It coaches across track and field, cross country, road running and sportshall athletics.

Who it is for

The club says it welcomes individuals of any standard. Its structure runs from an Academy for children in school years four to seven, through a satellite club covering a range of abilities, to senior and masters groups, so it takes in children, adults and older runners alike.

Activities

Track and field, cross country, road running and sportshall athletics, with both coaching and competition. In 2026 the club’s under-14 and under-16 athletes competed in Youth Development League lower-age matches, and the under-18 boys set a club record of 3:28.47 in the 4x400 metres relay at the National Relay Championships on 23 August 2026.

When and where

Training and competition take place at the Waterside Drive track. The club publishes its group structure and current training arrangements on its own membership pages, which is where to check them, because they change with the season.

Joining or taking part

Details of membership and of the different training groups are on the club’s own membership page, and the club asks prospective members to make contact through its website.

Getting there

The track is at the Elmbridge Sports Hub on Waterside Drive, adjacent to the Xcel leisure complex.
