Four planning applications proposing new homes in Hersham are registered with Elmbridge Borough Council and awaiting a decision, according to the council’s own records as checked on 6 September 2026. Three of them state how many homes they would build. Between them, those three come to 369.
This is a report of what has been applied for and what stage each application has reached. It is not a view on any of them. Anyone who wants to comment does so through the council, not through this site.
Land east of Molesey Road
The largest of the four. Application 2026/1718 was registered on 14 July 2026 and proposes the redevelopment of the site to provide 284 residential dwellings, with parking, landscaped areas and a new access. The site is east of Molesey Road, Hersham, at KT12 3PF. It is also the most recently registered of the four, which usually means it has the furthest still to run.
Land south of Burwood Road
Application 2026/0447 was registered on 23 February 2026 and proposes 62 dwellings, with a new vehicular access onto Burwood Road, a pedestrian access onto Turners Lane, parking, open space and landscaping. The site is land south of 131 to 147 Burwood Road, at KT12 4AR.
Waterloo Court car park, Mayfield Road
Application 2026/0036 was registered on 7 January 2026 and proposes 23 residential units, with parking, cycle and refuse storage, landscaping, changes to the existing access, and the relocation of a maintenance delivery unit. The site is the car park west of Waterloo Court on Mayfield Road, at KT12 5PL.
Mayfield Road sits on the Hersham side of the railway, which is why this one appears on the Hersham list rather than the Walton one.
Hersham Place Technology Park
Application 2025/2530, registered on 2 October 2025, is the longest running of the four and the most complex. It is a hybrid application for a phased development in two severable parts: a detailed first phase of residential dwellings, and an outline second phase of residential dwellings plus flexible commercial uses within Use Class E, together with a new vehicular access to Queensway, landscaping and the demolition of the existing buildings.
Because the outline phase is applied for with all matters reserved, the application does not put a single number of homes on the record in the way the other three do. That is why the 369 figure above covers three schemes rather than four, and it is worth keeping in mind when totals for Hersham are quoted elsewhere.
The technology park site has its own longer history, from a country house to a motor works to a corporate campus, told on our page about Hersham Lodge and Hersham Place.
Where to follow them
Every application above, along with recently decided ones, is listed with its current status and a link to the council’s own record on our Hersham development and planning page. That page is rebuilt every night from Elmbridge’s live planning data, so it will show a decision before this article is updated to mention one.
Details, comment periods and decisions are matters for Elmbridge Borough Council, which remains the planning authority for Hersham until 1 April 2027, when it is replaced by East Surrey Council.
